9/15/17: CBT Weekly Update, Grades 3-8 ELA and Math

CBT Weekly Update Call, 9/15/17

First Update Call for the New School Year, 2017-18

Welcome and Introduction by Angelica Infante-Green, Deputy Commissioner of the Office of Instructional Support.

Overview of CBT, 2016-17:

  • More than 184 schools participated in CBT from more than 80 districts.
  • More than 900 schools participated in field testing on computers with representation in every district in NYS.
  • Overall, the experience was a success, but we are learning from issues experienced in all three administrations and working to improve the CBT experience for this year.
    • This call will be an opportunity for you to learn about what is new for this year, how we’re addressing any issues experienced last year, and for you to ask questions and make suggestions.

Meeting Notes: There will be a new Category Added on CBT Support’s Weekly Updates page for the Grades 3-8 ELA and math meeting notes. Remember that you have to subscribe ( click “Follow”) to new sections added to CBT Support to receive email alerts for new content.

  • This call on Friday is only for Grades 3-8 ELA and math. The NYSAA update call with the field will be hosted separately by the NYSAA team.

CBT Requirements: the requirements to administer CBT this year are the same as last year and can be found on CBT Support: https://cbtsupport.nysed.gov/hc/en-us/articles/115004335626

  • Schools will order CBT through the NYSED online examination request system that is slated to open within the next few weeks.
    1. Option to select by subject/grade level
    2. Schools will verify Tech Readiness on Nextera Admin
    3. All students in a selected subject/grade will take the test on computer
    4. Schools will indicate a Lead Scoring Entity for CBT Scoring
    5. Decisions from 2017 do not affect decisions for 2018
    6. Schools will select format (paper/computer) for stand-alone field testing

CBT Fall Presentation Sessions: If you have not registered to attend an on-site or remote location for the CBT Fall Presentation Sessions, please do that now! We are starting to reach capacity attendance at some locations, which means we will remove the registration option from the Survey Monkey registration page.

The Statewide Webinar (Wednesday, October 18) registration for those who cannot attend a fall presentation in person (or remotely) will be posted to CBT Support and sent via the listservs later today.

UPDATE: Registration has been posted: https://cbtsupport.nysed.gov/hc/en-us/articles/115004706003

The Technology Readiness Checklist will be updated this year. We’re working on those updated requirements now and will post in the next two weeks.

  • Principals of schools that order CBT will be required to verify the requirements can be met on this checklist on Nextera Admin
  • Biggest change: new section for schools to verify they can meet the CBT Scoring Consortia requirement for constructed responses entered on computer

Nextera Admin: all data, including schools, districts, DTCs, teachers, and more will be removed from Nextera Admin and replaced with fresh data for the 2017-18 school year. We will keep you posted on timeframes for that—we have a tentative timeframe of early October.

  • We need to update the principal and DTC data for the Tech Readiness Checklist verification.
  • Access to student Constructed Responses for principals will persist via a new Reports tab on Nextera Admin.
  • We'll

Student Data: We are working with Questar now on updates to student data and how it will be imported to Nextera Admin.

  1. Student data is loaded to Nextera Admin after the NYSED online examination request system closes. We’ll determine the deadline after we’ve completed updates with Questar on the student data import process for this new year.
  2. Updates for OODP student data will ensure that students are loaded to Nextera Admin according to the testing location (such as a BOCES school) and also make sure that assessment/score data is transmitted back to the district of responsibility or “home district.”
    • As a reminder, ordering tests for OODP students is handled the same as paper test ordering: the school that tests the student (where the student is sitting on the day of the ELA or math test) orders the test for the student.
    • The OODP school may be ordering CBT and the student’s home district may be testing on paper: this is perfectly fine.

There will be updates to the Nextera Setup & Installation Guide this year—we are working on those updates with Questar now and will publish as soon as finalized.

  • For the most part, the Nextera Secure Browser is the same as last year.
  • There will not be an uninstall-and-reinstall-the-Nextera Secure Browser process required.
  • Updates to the Nextera Secure Browser will be automatically available within the Secure Browser.
