NWEA Announces Support for Operating Systems iOS 17.3+ for iPads and MacOS 14 for Macs.

If you have student devices running these Operating Systems that will be used for testing in Spring 2024, please review the important information provided below and share this article with your technology coordinators.

Support for IOS 17.3

NWEA has announced support for iOS 17.3+, including iOS 17.4. Sub-versions 17.1 or 17.2 are not supported. All schools running iOS 17-17.2 must update their student testing devices to iOS 17.3+.

Due to security concerns, NWEA has also advised NYSED that all schools with iPads running iOS version 17.3+ must download an updated Secure Browser, minor version 2.1.1, available from the Apple store. Effective March 1, 2024, the link for the updated secure browser will be available on Nextera Admin Help<Downloads page.

Note also that this notification does not impact iPads running versions 15.x or 16.x. iPads running 15.x or 16.x currently do not need to update the secure browser version 2.1 released in Fall 2023.

Support for MacOS 14

NWEA has announced support for MacOS 14. However, NWEA has also advised NYSED for schools running macOS 14 (Sonoma) should update to the latest version macOS < 14.3, for the best testing experience.

NWEA has informed NYSED that an issue was discovered when testing devices running mac < 14.1 to 14.2, that could result in students being disconnected from the test delivery system. If this happens, the student will need to pause the test, exit the Questar Secure Browser, then validate that connectivity has been restored prior to re-launching the secure browser and resuming the test. To minimize the effect of this, it is recommended to update devices to macOS 14.3. If schools continue to move forward running 14.1 to 14.2.1, schools should have their network engineers configure the DHCP lease time to be long enough to minimize the number of leases that expire while a student is testing.
