The CBT Technology Readiness Checklist has been updated for the 2018-19 school year

The new CBT Technology Readiness Checklist has been updated for the 2018-19 school year and is available on CBT Support in the Resources section. The CBT Technology Readiness Checklist is a ten-point checklist with requirements and guidelines all schools that order CBT must verify in order to administer computer-based tests in the spring. Principals will be asked to verify the CBT Technology Readiness Checklist on Nextera Admin after ordering computer-based tests this fall.

We have added one new requirement regarding scheduling by offering the option for schools to participate in a Statewide CBT Simulation on one of two days this spring. Additionally, we've added multiple new guidelines to help schools better prepare for CBT this spring. The most significant updates to the CBT Technology Readiness Checklist are the following:

  1. CBT Scheduling
    • Schools must schedule primary test administration for all students in an entire grade level on the same two consecutive testing days within the six-day primary test administration window.
  2.  Statewide CBT Simulation
    • To better prepare for the upcoming spring 2019 CBT administration with testing internal and external systems, we are encouraging school principals to pick one of two dates for their school to run a dry-run simulation with at least one grade level in their school. The following are the two dates in which principals can select to participate in the Statewide CBT Simulation this spring:
      • Tuesday, February 26, 2019
      • Tuesday, March 5, 2019
  3. Touchscreen Support for the Secure Browser
    • Questar is planning to increase touchscreen-input support for Chromebook and Windows testing devices that meet supported operating systems (see the Questar Test Readiness page for more information in October 2018)

Additional guidelines and links have been added to various requirements, including some of the following:

  • CBT Best practices and staggering student start times
  • Wireless bandwidth considerations
  • External keyboards for alternate language testing in CBT math
  • Setting up a secure testing environment for CBT
  • Keyboarding skills guidance

In NYS, we are very proud of how prepared our schools were for the 2018 CBT administration. We hope this year's update to the CBT Technology Readiness Checklist helps us all prepare even better for the spring 2019 CBT administration.
