1/4/19: CBT Weekly Updates, Grades 3-8 ELA and Math

CBT Weekly Updates Call, 1/4/19

Happy New Year! We believe 2019 is going to be the best year of CBT ever!

  1. There was a Questar release last evening that makes available new Secure Browsers for Mac and Windows machines.
    • Mac: version 4.0.7
    • Windows: version 4.0.7
  2. Last year, on January 19, 2018, we confirmed that all Secure Browser versions available on Nextera Admin were the Secure Browsers to be used for the spring administration.
    • We are going to work against that timeline within the next two weeks to try to confirm final Secure Browser versions for the spring 2019 administration: stay tuned.
    • (We do not expect, at this time, there to be updates to the currently available Secure Browser versions for iPad and Chromebook, but all schools should wait for our “final” message within the next two weeks.)
  3. CBT Technology Readiness: 15 schools and 2 BOCES still need to verify CBT Technology Readiness. The NYSED CBT team called principals and sent follow-up emails to all of these schools yesterday (we contacted the RICs about the BOCES schools).
    • This morning, around 11:00, we will send a copy of the email sent to the principal to the RIC colleagues for any outstanding schools so that you are aware of our communication efforts and can also try to assist.
  4. Statewide CBT Simulation: we will launch the registration for the webinar on January 30th later today and note in the CBT Listserv message.
    • We will also launch an article for paper-testing schools to “sign up” for communication from NYSED during the CBT Simulations.
      • It is NOT NECESSARY for schools to sign up, but we do want to provide the opportunity for them to receive communication from us during the simulations.
      • Many paper-testing schools have requested a place to “sign up.”
    • After the Simulations, we will consider launching a survey to collect feedback.
  5. Next Step: we have what are called “Overachievers” – schools that verified CBT Technology Readiness and did not order CBT through the NYSED online examination request system.
    • We would like to send this list of 10-15 schools to the RICs (once we add district and RIC associations).
      • Many of the overachievers are for high schools that verified but the middle school ordered CBT—we are working on how to review these schools today.
