Question Answer NYSED Additional Comments
Will there be a FAQ posted with relation to this webinar if there is a "hot topic"? There  will be an FAQ posted a few days after the webinar is finished. Yes, you can find the Q& A of the CBT Fall Webinar in the CBT Resources section of CBT Support.
The phone given 518-474-8220 is different from the CBT Support line previously given (518-474-7965).  Is this a new number that will be used going forward? Yes, this number 518-474-8220 is for the Office of State Assessment. You may reach out to the Office of State Assessment via phone (518-474-8220) or CBT Support Support by email.
Where do we obtain the PowerPoint? The presentation is posted on CBT Support in the CBT Resources section We have also posted the video of the webinar to the same CBT Support article as the presentation slides.
When will the final update for Questar be made available? The final Secure Browser will be available in January.  We are working with Questar on the exact date.

In January each year, Questar and NYSED confirm the Questar Secure Browser versions that will be used for the spring CBT administration.

We HIGHLY recommend that all schools develop an uninstall and re-install process for the Questar Secure Browser every year at the end of January to ensure that all student testing devices have been properly updated and received any Secure Browser updates delivered automatically to the application. This is a best practice for CBT.

Is there a spot where I can check on my schools as the District Test Coordinator (DTC) to make sure they've ordered and done the technology readiness? Unfortunately no. As a DTC, you will need to "filter" to each of your schools on the technology readiness page to verify if they have completed technology readiness. If you need any assistance on how to filter to view your schools, please view the CBT Technology Readiness Quick Reference Guide.
Do you have to do the sample platform by Dec. 30 if you're only doing Stand-Alone Field Testing (SAFT)?

The Question Sampler is not a requirement of CBT Technology Readiness.

Schools that will be participating in CBT field testing only are not required to verify CBT Technology Readiness, but they cab use this checklist to determine technology readiness within their school..

The New York State Question Sampler is available publicly online, providing previously released state test questions for students, educators, and parents to review in the Nextera Test Delivery System. The Question Sampler offers three different practice tests in every grade level in both subjects. You can also review different testing accommodations, such as Text-to-Speech (TTS), Reverse Contrast, and more for CBT.

Please be sure to use the Google Chrome Browser when using the Question Sampler.

Where is the CBT Technology Readiness Checklist located and does it need to be answered online? Yes, you will need to verify and complete the CBT Technology Readiness Checklist in Nextera Admin

For step-by-step instructions for verifying the CBT Technology Readiness Checklist on the school level, please view the CBT Technology Readiness Quick Reference Guide.

All operational CBT schools are required to complete and submit CBT Technology Readiness by 12/30/19.

What were the languages that are offered? The 5 alternate languages offered for CBT math are Chinese (Traditional), Haitian Creole, Korean, Russian and Spanish. As a best practice, we recommend that students practice the CBT translated tests in the Question Sampler prior to taking the operational math tests on computer. The Question Sampler has three sessions for every grade level available in the five alternative languages.
We are not concerned with our tech requirements, we would like to know if you have made any upgrades to your systems to prevent the problems with access that seem to occur every year. Such as, when the test is down for days.  This presentation will focus on general CBT info.  We will be presenting information on specifics later this year or during our presentations in January.
Will the local BOCES be advising a date for the simulation for their respective component schools? Some BOCES may be coordinating this on a regional basis.  Please check with your RIC or BOCES to see if this is available in your area.

For the 2019-20 school year, there will be two CBT Statewide Simulations offered to schools on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 and Tuesday, February 11, 2020.

Schools that are testing via the computer should plan on scheduling at least one of the Statewide CBT Simulations, although schools are welcome to participate on both days.

Who is responsible for setting up accounts in Nextera Admin? Is it the principal? My account is no longer available to me from the 2019 administration.

Questar removed all 2018-19 school year data, including RIC, district, and school organization data as well as all user account data, including principals and district test coordinators, and is  pulling new information from the SEDREF  database at NYSED. This is part of the annual data refresh process.

As part of the data refresh, all user accounts are removed, including teacher accounts. It is the responsibility of principals and test coordinators to create new accounts for users who are not created automatically as part of the data refresh from SEDREF and who need access immediately to Nextera Admin. Information on adding new users in Nextera Admin is available in the following video: Learn how to add new users in Nextera Admin. You can also contact the NYSED CBT Support team if you need additional help.
Are the practice tests updated or are they the same questions from the previous two years? Currently the practice tests are the same. On the Question Sampler, there is an option for teachers to create their own questions and use the ELA response box sampler or the Math Equation Editor sampler for the answers.

For more information about the ELA Response Box Sampler, please view our CBT Support article: New Resource: ELA Response Box Sampler.

For more information on the Equation Editor Sampler, please view our CBT Support article:New Resource: Equation Editor Sampler.

Are teachers allowed to aide students with the "tools" since it is a technical issue and not an academic issue? Proctors may give students assistance only in the mechanics of taking the test.  For CBT, this includes understanding the navigation of the Nextera Test Delivery System or that their responses must be entered into the Nextera Test Delivery System. For more information on proctoring, please review the School Administrators Manual (SAM) pg. 31.
What are the simulation dates? The simulation dates are Tuesday, January 28, 2020 and Tuesday, February, 11, 2020. Schools that are testing via the computer should plan on scheduling at least one of the Statewide CBT Simulations, although schools are welcome to participate on both days.
Our school is only participating in Field testing - is this webinar relevant to our situation or is it only for operational testing? The audience for this presentation is operational testing schools.  We will have other trainings for field test schools as we get closer to those dates.  This presentation will also be recorded and posted if you wish to listen to it at a later date.  Thanks!

Each year, a comparability study is conducted and scores have been adjusted accordingly.  See Technical Reports on the Office of State Assessment website. For more information, please view Technical Reports on the Office of State Assessment website.
When should we send the PBT answer sheet spreadsheet to request PBT answer sheets? Your Regional Information Center (RIC) will set that deadline for you. If you are unsure on how to contact your RIC, please view the CBT Support article: How do I contact my Regional Information Center (RIC) Testing Department?
Does the entire class of a grade have to test on the same day or can that be broken up over the 2 days as well? The entire grade in a building needs to test on the same day. For more information, please view the memo for Procedures for Requesting, Shipping, and Storing of Materials for the Spring 2020 Administration of the New York State Grades 3-8 English Language Arts and Mathematics Tests and Information on Computer-Based Testing and Field Testing for Spring 2020.

All students receive log in information from who? When student data is loaded in Nextera Admin for spring administration. Test coordinators will need to print student login tickets and provide logins to student on test day. We will cover more on this process during the winter training sessions.   You can find information on the Winter Training Session and the statewide webinar on CBT Support.
Do they need log in information for the practice tests? The Question Sampler does not require logins. However, the practice tests within the Questar Secure Browser, do require specific login credentials.

The Secure Browser practice tests will remain available throughout the year. You can locate examples of the usernames for the grade levels along with PDFs that include login lists for ELA and math in the following articles on CBT Support

If we are doing one grade level in several buildings, do they all have to test on the same two days? The guidelines regarding testing the entire grade on the same two consecutive school days are school-specific and need not be observed as district-specific. Please view the 2019-20 Elementary- and Intermediate-level Testing Schedule for guidelines on the scheduling of CBT Sessions.
Will paper copies of the ELA booklets be provided for ELL/MLL students or do we have to request that separately? When a school requests an alternate language CBT, they will automatically receive English paper copy.
