The information in this message is relevant to only those schools using iPads for testing.
You are receiving this message because your school will be administering computer-based tests during the spring 2022 testing window.
The Department is aware that Apple has very recently introduced an operating system update to iOS 15.4 for iPad users.
Due to the timing of this release, the Department’s contractor for computer-based testing, Questar, has not had the opportunity to investigate the full impact of the update on the Nextera secure browser that students use to complete their tests. Prior experience has shown that the text-to-speech (TTS) function can be especially susceptible to iOS updates.
The Department strongly advises schools not to install the iOS 15.4 update before testing. If the update has already been installed, it is recommended that schools do not use the updated devices for testing.
As a reminder, schools have frequently been advised to avoid updates to the computer devices within one month of the testing window. This guidance as well as tools to ensure online test readiness is provided on the Questar Test Readiness page http://www.questarai.com/readiness/.
