Schools will make test-format decisions for offering the Test Read accommodations in grades that order CBT on an eligible student-by-student basis. Schools will enter quantities for Test Read when ordering CBT. There are three different methods for delivering the Test Read accommodation to a student:
- Text-to-Speech, online only - the computer reads the test to the student who responds on computer
- Read Aloud, by human - a human reads the test to the student who responds on computer
- Paper Test - a human reads the test to the student who responds on paper
When ordering CBT for a grade level, the school will enter the number of students that are testing in that grade. The school will also indicate the number of students who will be testing in a CBT grade level and making use of the Test Read accommodation. It is not necessary to know how that testing accommodation will be delivered to the student in a CBT grade level when submitting the school’s exam request in the NYSED online examination request system. The method of delivery can be determined at a later date before the spring testing administration by the CSE.
Students should have practice with the Text-to-Speech functionality if using TTS in the spring to take the Grades 3-8 ELA and math or Grades 5 & 8 science tests on computer.
